Hailed for her “devastatingly beautiful performance”, and as a singer “whose lamentations were as heartbreaking as they were impressive” (CisternYard Media), American soprano Cherise Ann Reynolds, is fast on the rise.
For the 2022/2023 Cherise begins working on her Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) at The University of North Texas. She will be seen as Brangäene in a highlights concert of Tristan und Isolde through the UNT College of Music on December 3rd, 2022. In March, Cherise will be starring as Blanche DuBois with UNT Opera in Andre Previn’s opera: A Streetcar Named Desire, based on the famous play by Tennessee Williams. Cherise will revive her role as The Mother in Hansel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck here and there throughout Denton County with a new opera initiative in the area called: Denton County Opera (check them out!!!!). Cherise will also perform the role of The Mother again with The Fillmore Studio sometime in 2023.
For the 2021/2022 season, Cherise began her second year at UNT in their MM program. During the winter season, Cherise can be heard in the Puccini Scenes concert with UNT Opera as Mimi in La Boheme, Angelica in Suor Angelica, and Tosca in Tosca. She will also be joining the UNT Symphony Orchestra to cover the role of Desdemona in Otello. In the spring, she will step into the role of The Female Chorus in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with UNT Opera.
During the 2020/2021 season, Cherise began her work on her MM in Vocal Performance at The University of North Texas. Cherise was a soloist with UNT’s A Cappella choir under the direction of Dr. Allen Hightower, a finalist in the UNT Concerto Competition, and was seen as Rose Segal in Later The Same Evening by John Musto with UNT Opera. In August, Cherise performed the role of Dido in The Fillmore Studio summer production of Dido and Aaneas at UNT through the UNT School of Music.
During the 2019/2020 season, Cherise began her 2nd and final season as an apprentice artist with San Diego Opera. She joined San Diego Opera’s production of Aida, to prepare and study cover the title role of Aida. During the winter, Cherise joined San Diego Opera’s production of Hansel and Gretel, to prepare and study cover the role of The Mother. Cherise performed in scenes as The Mother in Hansel and Gretel, Leonora in Il Trovatore, and Nedda from Il Pagliacci in various concerts throughout Southern California. She performed at the San Diego Museum of Art highlighting the paintings of Bouguereau, and performed the same repertoire in various private recitals. She also lent her voice to sing at The Spreckles Organ Pavillion Christmas Concert singing with the USO and the Southwest Region’s Navy Band. Cherise also joined San Diego Opera as a member the ensemble for an opera workshop of “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego”, by Gabriela Lena Frank.
During the 2018/2019 season, Ms. Reynolds completed her first year as an Apprentice Artist with the San Diego Opera. She performed scenes as Magda Sorel from Menotti’s The Consul, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Vitellia from La Clemenza di Tito. Ms. Reynolds also traveled to Washington State to perform Dvorak’s “Song to the Moon” from Rusalka with the Southwest Washington Symphony, as a returning guest young artist. Ms. Reynolds was also the First Place Winner in the 2019 Virginia and Susan Hawke Memorial Vocal Competition.
Previous roles include the title role in Suor Angelica, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Madame Pompous in Too Many Sopranos by Edwin Penorwood. Ms. Reynolds has also performed scenes as the title role in Rusalka, Nedda in Pagliacci, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Leonora in Il Trovatore, and Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte.
Ms. Reynolds has been twice selected as an international semi-finalist with the Elizabeth Connell Prize for Aspiring Young Dramatic Sopranos, a semi-finalist in the Classical Singer Magazine Competition emerging professional division of, is a recipient of an Opera Buffs, Inc. Career Grant, and was a winner of the South Carolina NATS Competition
Cherise received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from The College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Music from The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
Cherise is currently working on her DMA (Doctorate of Musical Arts) from The University of North Texas.
